Hankin Group, a Chester County real estate development company dedicated to quality and sustainability, has announced that their newest 2 buildings at apartment community, Severgn Apartments, have been awarded LEED Gold.
LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design), developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), is the most widely used green building rating system in the world and an international symbol of excellence. Severgn Apartments, an apartment community located within Exton, consists of 19 buildings, 4 of which are LEED Gold certified. The Severgn Apartments community, managed by Hankin Apartments, consists of 228 luxury apartment units and a deluxe outdoor picnic and barbeque area just outside the gates of their resort-style pool.
Hankin Group obtained this certification for the latest phase at Severgn Apartments, through commitment to addressing environmental quality through various processes. The team at Hankin Group carefully selected landscaping with non-invasive plant species to prevent the introduction of foreign pests to the local flora and fauna while also promoting reduced water consumption.
During the construction of these 2 buildings in 2021/22, they prioritized locally-sourced building materials, significantly minimizing greenhouse gas emissions. The integration of highly efficient HVAC units, appliances, and lighting fixtures not only benefits the environment but also results in lower energy costs for the residents. Furthermore, residents’ health was prioritized by using low VOC paint for all interior finishes.
Peter Templeton, president, and CEO of USGBC commented on Hankin Group’s commitment to sustainability.
“Achieving LEED certification is more than just implementing sustainable practices. It represents a commitment to making the world a better place and influencing others to do better,” said Templeton. “Given the extraordinary importance of climate protection and the central role buildings play in that effort, Hankin Group is creating a path forward through their LEED certification.” Receiving this certification speaks to Hankin Group’s dedication to leveraging solutions with environmental benefits that can be passed down from generation to generation.
Lance Hillegas, VP of Sustainable Development and Design, and Laura Maiale, Development and Sustainability Manager, played pivotal roles in securing the LEED Gold certification for these units at Severgn Apartments. Maiale emphasizes Hankin Group’s unwavering commitment to sustainable development as a core principle. Constructing LEED-certified residential communities offers tangible benefits to residents, including enhanced efficiency, reduced carbon emissions, and healthier living spaces.
Hankin Group takes pride in their dedication to creating energy and water-efficient homes, ensuring thermal comfort, and using environmentally friendly and locally sourced materials. Their most recent Severgn Apartments project exemplifies these values, and the LEED Gold certification serves as recognition for Hankin Group’s focus on both quality and sustainability.
Sustainability clearly lies at the heart of Hankin Group’s endeavors, and their practices bring positive impacts to both the environment and their residents. LEED-certified buildings like those at Severgn Apartments, are playing a significant role in making the world a better place and setting a standard for others to follow.
